SADA was established in 1993 by the Human
Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in Pretoria. SADA has recently been
incorporated into the
National Research Foundation (NRF), which was established in April
1999.The archive is non-profit
national resource centre aimed at providing and promoting
machine-readable research data and documentation to all research
organisations in South Africa, other African countries and all other
countries internationally.

Data collections:
SADA's
catalogue of holdings comprise a wide range of areas, such as:
- Political science and election
studies.
- Law and criminology
- Demography and sociology
- Social work
- Economics and business
administration
- Education
- Health-related studies
- Census statistics
- Psychology
While the NRF programmes are being
developed, programmes of the former FRD and CSD continue to support
academics and students across a broad range of disciplines, thus the
need for SADA to expand to other domains of science, e.g. natural
sciences. The expansion to other sciences and the anticipated
establishment of virtual archives will increase the benefits to the
research community in general. SADA also hopes to reflect the
government's core priority themes in its holdings, e.g. AIDS studies.
This will dramatically affect the scope of SADA's holdings in the near
future. |

NETPRO: Network of Practitioners and Researchers on Drug and
Other Social Issues (an NGO).
NETPRO is a multisectoral forum of researchers and practitioners
that facilitates community-driven research-based policy formation
and provides service on drug-related prevention and treatment in
South Africa.
