Data Services is part of the Humanities and Social Sciences/Government Publications Division of the Library of the University of British Columbia (UBC Library).
Its primary function is to acquire, store, and maintain machine-readable non-bibliographic data files to support the research and teaching activities of the University.

Data collections:
The Data Library collects data in all disciplines in which teaching and research activities of the University faculty and students employ quantitative, secondary analysis. The collection of circa 1,300 data files in circa 6,000 physical files, includes:
  • Major Canadian and international economic databases produced by federal and international government bodies, (Statistics Canada, International Monetary Fund, etc.) as well as other major collections of socio-economic time-series data.
  • Canadian census of population data from the quinquennial censuses from 1961 through 1991, including aggregated and microlevel data, U.S. census of population data, and Canadian and U.S. vital statistics data. All extant Canadian Gallup poll files.
  • Significant Canadian sample surveys, both from private and public sectors, dealing with social and economic behaviour.
  • Major financial databases, including stock market prices and company balance sheet data.
  • A major collection of satellite imagery from polar-orbiting satellites, including LANDSAT and NOAA/TIROS series satellites.
  • Digitized maps, elevation models, etc.
  • A collection of textual data in a number of languages, modern and ancient.
