The Zentralarchiv was founded in 1960 by
the University of Cologne. Since 1987 it is an institute of the Kölner
Gesellschaft für Sozialforschung e.V. (KGS) and member of
GESIS
(Gesellschaft Sozialwissenschaftlicher Infrastruktureinrichtungen
e.V.). It is financed jointly by the University and the Federal
Minister for Research and Technology and the Länder via GESIS.

Data collections:
The Zentralarchiv archives primary
material (data, questionnaires, code plans) and results of empirical
studies in order to prepare them for secondary analyses and to make
them available to the interested public.
The range of the ZA encompasses all technical areas in which
procedures of empirical and historical social research are used.
Regional data and textual data for computer-aided content analysis are
included as well. Special collections exist for:

Newsletter:

ZA Informationen (ISSN 0723-5607) is published twice a year (in
May and November). Most contributions are in German, some in
English. Subscription to the Newsletter is free.
